Organic Chemistry Branch

The Organic Chemistry Branch of the Water Sciences Section is located in the Central Laboratory building in Raleigh, NC. The Branch is comprised of two units:

The branch is responsible for analyzing environmental samples (surface and ground water, soil, sediment, UST) for semi-volatile (including herbicides and pesticides) and volatile organic compounds. These parameters are analyzed using gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) instrumentation. Detection levels are at the parts per billion and parts per trillion levels.  

The branch's clients include DWR (Water Sciences Section, Regional offices), the Division of Waste Management's Underground Storage Tank (UST) Section, universities, and federal agencies (USGS, Fish & Wildlife).
